For Katie,
I always looked up to you
You were the coolest of the cool
You had the car
The hair
The clothes
and the music too.
I’ll never forget
The song that played
That one time you picked me up
For a weekend away.
“Drop your glasses, Shake your asses…somethin somethin
E.V.E. somethin somethin... Let me blow your mind”
We sang it loud,
and jammed like we were in front of a crowd.
You were my older cousin.
Were
That’s weird to say.
I really wish it wasn’t this way.
I barely knew you,
I thought we had time.
You invited me to visit,
I told you I would.
That I’d make the time
When I could.
Then one day
All that time went away.
Now you’re just a memory
From my yesterday.
So I sat down today
To write you a poem.
It took me some time
I didn’t know what to say.
We had so few moments.
I don’t have many stories to tell
No quick witted blurbs
Or comedic relief.
What I do have
Is what I have seen,
Katie,
You were a true queen,
A goddess devine
You were made of all things good
Love and light
Everything of that kind.
You cared deeply for everyone.
Wanting only the best.
This world was so much brighter with you in it
May your soul receive some much needed rest.
I’ll miss you, sweet cousin
All your love and light,
I can’t wait to see you
In our next life.
